Xinhua summary of Asia-Pacific stocks news at 1130 GMT, April 2

Chinese stocks ended higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.41 percent, or 15.49 points, to finish at 3,825.78 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index gained 0.23 percent, or 31.38 points, to close at 13,426.10 points.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended almost unchanged on Thursday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) inched up 0.62 points, or 0.03 percent, to 2,029.07 at the close. Trading volume stood at 646.3 million shares worth 5.9 trillion won (5.4 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market closed stronger on Thursday as predictions increased about the Reserve Bank of Australia cutting interest rates next week.

At the official close, the benchmark S & P/ASX200 index had risen 37.8 points, or 0.64 percent, to 5,898.6, while the broader All Ordinaries index increased 36.8 points, or 0.63 percent, to 5, 869.7.

HONG KONG -- Taiwan's share prices closed up 0.97 percent on Thursday with the weighted index up 92.66 points at 9,600.32, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

Turnover totaled 92.43 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 2.96 billion U.S. dollars) during the trading session.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks rose 1.46 percent Thursday on bargain hunting after two days of steep losses.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 277.95 points, from Wednesday at 19,312.79. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 25.18 points, or 1.65 percent, to close at 1,554.17.

The turnover was 2,790.9 billion yen (about 23.32 billion U.S. dollars).

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market finished on Thursday down 1. 08 percent against the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 16.69 points to 1,527.79. A total of 48,905 shares worth about 49 million Lao kip (about 42,000 U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 192.89 points, or 0.77 percent to 25,275.64 points on Thursday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 25,152.57 and 25, 297.8. Turnover totaled 124.74 billion HK dollars (about 16.09 billion U.S. dollars).

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 546.85 points on Thursday, up 7.94 points, or 1.47 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 89.755 million shares worth 1.394 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (65 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 159 stocks went up, 66 stocks fell down, while 57 stocks remained unchanged.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX- Index, closed at 81.6 points on Thursday, up 1.13 points, or 1.4 percent, against the previous trading session.

A total of 33.108 million shares worth 411.749 billion Vietnamese dong (19.28 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Thursday, a decrease of 22.43 percent in volume and 14.83 percent in value against the previous trading session.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index closed Thursday at 4,473 points, down 40.11 points or about 0.89 percent from Wednesday's finish.

Among a total of 308 issues traded, 66 registered gains and 204 incurred losses while 38 remained unchanged.

Total turnover decreased to about 2.71 billion taka (about 34. 72 million U.S. dollars) on Thursday from about 3.60 billion taka (about 46.11 million U.S. dollars) on Wednesday.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 6.73 points, or 0.20 percent, to close at 3,453.75.

A total of 1.39 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 925.5 million Singapore dollars (681.1 million U.S. dollars).

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed lower by 10.47 points, or 0. 19 percent, to a level of 5,456.40 on Thursday.

Some 207,269 transactions were booked, involving 5.93 billion shares worth 5.51 trillion rupiah (about 423.85 million U.S. dollars).

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Thursday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,831.97 up 5.66 points or 0.31 percent, and the Emas was at 12,565.02 up 47.35 points or 0.38 percent.

Turnover increased to 2.17 billion shares valued at 2.04 billion ringgit Malaysia(555.71 million U.S. dollars), compared with 2.91 billion shares valued at 1.57 billion ringgit Malaysia( 424.27 million U.S. dollars) on Wednesday.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Thursday moved up 6.65 points, or 0.44 percent, to close at 1,532.23 points.

Some 11.29 billion shares worth 43.33 billion baht (about 1.34 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands. Endi
