Sonia Gandhi says her son Rahul to be back in Indian politics soon

Xinhua, April 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

India's main opposition Congress party's chief Sonia Gandhi Thursday said that her son and Nehru- Gandhi scion Rahul Gandhi would be back soon.

"Rahul Gandhi will be back soon," the Congress president told the media in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh where she has been touring to meet farmers affected by excessive rain this year.

Rahul Gandhi's leave of absence from politics has been a subject of intense speculation in India, with ruling Bharatiya Janata Party's leaders jokingly comparing it to the disappearance of a Malaysian plane.

"The budget session is over, but where is Rahul Gandhi? This is similar to the disappearance of the Malaysian aircraft which has not been found," BJP leader and Indian Minister Giriraj Singh said last week.

The Congress claims that Rahul Gandhi is on a sabbatical to introspect in a bid to bolster the party's organization.

Rahul Gandhi is also tipped to take over the reins of the party from Sonia Gandhi this month, though it has not been officially confirmed by the Congress leadership. Endi
