Zambia's soccer governing body has attracted the rile of local coaches following its decision to prefer a foreign coach to take charge of the national soccer team coaching job, the Post of Zambia reported on Monday.
Last week, Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Kalusha Bwalya said the association will engage a foreign coach to take over the national soccer team after evaluating the performance of local coaches currently in charge of the team.
But the Zambia Football Coaches Association said it was clear that local coaches are not appreciated and that it will start helping the local coaches get jobs abroad.
"We will get them jobs elsewhere. We seem to appreciate coaches that come from outside than our own. I can see that we as Zambians are not ready to take a risk, so we will find other countries which can take a risk," Patrick Kangwa, the head of the coaches' association was quoted as saying by the paper.
He said the association will work hard and expose local coaches to get better qualifications and then encourage them to look for jobs in other countries.
Current coach Honor Janza, who has not been given a contract since taking over on a temporal basis last year, has also fumed over the decision to get a foreign coach.
Janza told reporters after the national team beat Rwanda 2-0 in friendly game on Sunday, that he was surprised that the soccer governing body decided to take the mater regarding the national soccer job in the public domain instead of engaging him.
He said the announcement disturbed him and that he could not concentrate during the match.
The Zambian trainer took over as a caretaker coach last when Frenchman Patrice Beamuelle dumped the team and decided to join his counterpart Herve Renard who had clinched a job to coach the Cote d'Ivoire national team. Endi
