Gunmen assassinate Pakistan's army officer

Xinhua, March 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

Unidentified gunmen shot dead a Pakistani army officer in the northwestern city of Peshawar on Sunday, police said.

Colonel Tahir Azeem came under attack in Peshawar's wealthy Hayatabad area, near the Khyber tribal region, where he had gone to attend a wedding ceremony.

Two gunmen riding a motorbike fled after firing in a marketplace, witnesses said.

A police officer said the slain army officer belonged to Peshawar but was posted in the garrison city of Rawalpindi.

No group claimed responsibility and police said they are investigating motives behind the incident. Police sources said the attack is seen as a targeted killing. Endi
