Combating threat of terrorism voted as emergency item for discussion at IPU-132

Xinhua, March 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

The role of parliaments in combating the threat of terrorism against innocent civilians was voted to be an emergency item for discussion at the ongoing 132nd Assembly of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-132), reads a press release by IPU-132 on Sunday.

The request for emergency item was made by Australia ahead of the IPU-132 and related meetings being held in Vietnam's capital Hanoi from Saturday to Wednesday.

Under the terms of IPU Assembly rule, any member of the union may request the inclusion of an emergency item in the assembly agenda.

A request for the inclusion of an emergency item must relate to a major event of international concern on which it appears necessary for the IPU to express its opinion. Such a request must receive a two-thirds majority of the votes cast in order to be accepted.

The debate on the emergency item will be conducted on Monday. The IPU Assembly is expected to adopt a resolution on the emergency item on Tuesday. Endi
