Sudan denies Yemen's Houthi group downs fighter jet

Xinhua, March 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

Sudanese military denied on Saturday claims saying one of its fighter jets were downed by Yemen's Shiite Houthi group, which has been under days of bombing by the Saudi-led Arab coalition to shore up the fleeing Yemeni President Abd Rabbou Mansour Hadi.

"This information is absolutely untrue. These are claims by the Houthi group", Al-Sawarmy Khalid Saad, Sudanese army spokesman, told Xinhua.

"We have not lost any fighter plane within our fleet participating in the Decisive Storm operation. Our military participation is progressing actively and in coordination with the rest of the alliance," he added.

The Sudanese al-Mugran news net on Saturday reported that a Sudanese fighter plane, one of the four participating in the Saudi-led anti-Houthi air campaign, was downed and its pilot captured by the Houthi militias.

On Friday, Khartoum said it was ready to send 6000 soldiers for the ground operations.

Saudi Arabia on Thursday announced the launching of the operation in Yemen, while more than ten countries, including Sudan, joined the coalition. Endit
