Australia to apply for joining AIIB

Australian Finance Minster Mathias Cormann said here Saturday that his country has decided to apply for joining the China-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

Cormann made the announcement as he attended a seminar of the annual conference of the Boao Forum for Asia, in south China's Hainan Province.

Also Saturday, Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov said Russia will apply to join the bank at the BFA conference.

The AIIB is expected to be founded by the end of this year. It aims to support infrastructure projects in Asia.

The deadline of application is March 31 and the final number of founding members will be confirmed on April 15. Endi
