5 Al-shabaab fighters killed at a hotel in Mogadishu

Police authorities in Mogadishu confirmed that five Al-shabaab attackers were killed by Somali security forces in the just ended siege at Maka al Mukarama hotel.

The Al-Shabaab militants who had stormed the hotel on Friday evening are said to have forced their way into the hotel, some disguised as Somali National Army, and engaged in fierce fighting with security forces for more than 16 hours.

By Saturday morning, explosions could still be heard from the building as casualty figures were said to have risen. Police report that five more people died bringing the total number to 20 and several others with injuries.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who was in official duty to Egypt yesterday condemned the attack and called for investigations into the matter. Endi
