Italian airline Alitalia follows suit for two-person cockpit rule

Xinhua, March 28, 2015 Adjust font size:

Italy's national airline Alitalia has followed suit for the two-person rule as several airlines changed rules to ensure there are two people in the cockpit at all times, local media said Friday.

The Italian airlines' decision to have two people in the cockpit at all times follows the Germanwings announcement on Thursday that a co-pilot appeared to have deliberately caused a plane crash which killed all 150 people on board.

The co-pilot of Germnawings, Andreas Lubitz, was named by investigators as being solely responsible for the tragedy in French Alps, after locking the pilot out of the cockpit and forcing the plane to crash.

As a result, several airlines have changed their rules, to make sure a second member of the flight crew is present when one of the pilots steps out of the cockpit. Endit
