U.S. economic growth unchanged at 2.2 percent in Q4, 2014

Xinhua, March 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

The U.S. economy expanded at an annual rate of 2.2 percent in the fourth quarter of 2014, unchanged from the second estimate released last month, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced Friday.

"The general picture of the economy for the fourth quarter remains the same," the Commerce Department said in a report for the final estimate of the U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) in the fourth quarter.

The GDP growth stays unrevised due to the larger-than-expected increases in exports and personal consumption expenditures and smaller-than-estimated change in private inventories, according to the report.

The U.S. economy grew 5 percent and 4.6 percent respectively in the second and third quarter following a 2.1-percent-decline in the first quarter of 2014, which was mainly attributed to severe winter weather.

For the whole year 2014, the U.S. economy expanded 2.4 percent, slightly higher than that in 2013. Endi
