"No Muslim and no human being commits such crime except extremist elements, the extra-judicial killing of a man irrespective of his or her fault by anyone is condemnable," a Kabul resident, Mohammad Haroon, 59, told Xinhua.
A week ago, on Thursday, scores of emotional people had brutally beaten to death a 27-year-old girl Farkhunda on charges of torching copies of the Quran, the Muslim holy book, and later burned her body in front of the eyes of the police in downtown Kabul.
The extra-violent incident has drawn wide condemnation at home and abroad and has been strongly condemned as a barbaric act.
People from all walks of life have condemned the extra-judicial killing of Farkhunda in the capital city of Kabul. Even the Taliban outfit in a statement denounced the murder of the lady as provocative and defaming Islam.
To condemn the barbaric killing of Farkhunda and call for justice, thousands of people from all walks of life staged a peaceful demonstration in front of the Afghanistan Supreme Court on Tuesday, demanding the apex court bring to justice all those involved in the brutal murder of the girl.
The attack on Farkhunda took place during daylight hours inside a shrine, the Shah-e-Doshamshira, which is frequented by hundreds of people daily, and where dozens of mullahs are sitting around to offer talisman as remedies for people who have problems.
In conservative Afghanistan where tradition is deeply rooted, many people, especially uneducated ones, believe in the talisman and amulets as remedies for problems of those in need.
Most jobless people, youngsters in love and even politicians visit the shrine and mullahs to get a talisman and offer prayers to manifest their desires.
Having diplomas in Islamic theology, the late Farkhunda, according to her father and comments posted on social media was against religious mumbo-jumbo and had advised a mullah inside the shrine to abandon the deceitful practice of selling talisman and fleecing poor people.
The mullah, in sharp reaction to punish Farkhunda, called upon the people around him, saying that that the "lady burned copies of the Quran" and scores of people brutally attacked the girl and after killing her, set her body ablaze on the spot.
"It is blatant violation against humanity and a hideous case of violence against a woman, since murdering Farkhunda, we women don' t feel secure outside our homes," a protesting woman Alia, told Xinhua.
Alia, like many Afghans goes by one name, called upon the government to award capital punishment to all those behind the brutal killing of Farkhunda.
Clips of the attack on Farkhunda posted on social media have been shocking as dozens of people are seen beating the poor lady with stones, batons, kicks punches and finally pouring petrol and burning her body mercilessly.
The clips posted on social media have assisted the interior ministry to identify and arrest more than 20 people with regard to the heinous attack on Farkhunda.
"It is a fact that an innocent lady was brutally murdered. Even if she was guilty, no one had the right to judge and kill her. Judging is the authority of a court and not the people of the street. Anyhow, the people want justice with regard to Farkhunda's case and the government said it will ensure it," acting minister for women affairs Mujgan Mastafavi told local media on Wednesday. Endi
