A renowned Myanmar politician on Wednesday stressed the utmost importance of a domestic ceasefire in order to gain stability and development in the country.
As for the ongoing peace talks on a draft nationwide ceasefire agreement and the armed clashes in northern Myanmar, U Ko Ko Gyi, general secretary of 88-Generation Peace and Open Society Group, told Xinhua that Myanmar's domestic clashes lasted longer than his age for over six decades.
Urging parties to have perseverance and far-sightedness, he said there is no way out until a federation system guaranteeing equality of nationalities is built. (Myanmar-Ceasefire)

TOKYO -- A panel from Japan's Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) said on Wednesday that a reactor at Japan Atomic Power Co.'s Tsuruga nuclear plant lies above an active geological fault line in Fukui Prefecture on the Sea of Japan.
The finding came after more than two years of research at the nuclear plant which could force Japan Atomic Power Co. to permanently keep the reactor offline due to increased safety concerns. (Japan-Nuclear Reactor)

GHAZNI, Afghanistan -- A total of 21 Taliban militants including their key commander Mullah Nurullah have been killed and eight others injured in Ghazni province with Ghazni city as its capital 125 km south of Kabul on Wednesday, deputy to provincial police chief Assadullah Insafi said. "The security forces launched cleanup operations in Shirwali area of Andar district early Wednesday morning and till afternoon 21 militants including their commander Mullah Nurullah had been killed and eight others injured,"Insafi told reporters. SINGAPORE -- The exhibition of "In Memoriam:Lee Kuan Yew" opened to the public at the National Museum of Singapore on Wednesday to pay tribute to Singapore's founding father who passed away at the age of 91 on Monday.
The memorial exhibition is composed of four parts - the Formative Years, Road to Merdeka (independence), Survival and Nationhood, and His Legacy, which chronicles the life and political career of the first Singaporean prime minister.
