Vietnamese teams fail to enter semifinals at int'l women's volleyball cup

Two Vietnamese teams failed to enter semifinals of the VTV-Binh Dien International Women's Volleyball Cup after losing to Kazakhstan and Japanese rivals respectively on Wednesday.
Vietnam's Vietinbank lost to Kazakhstan's Astana 3-2, and Vietnam's Tien Nong Thanh Hoa lost to Japan's Tenri University 3-1.
Meanwhile, on the fifth day of the tournament being held in Dong Ha city, Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s 4.25 Sports Club beat Malaysia in straight sets.
After five days of the event, Japan's Tenri University, Vietnam's Tien Nong Thanh Hoa and Malaysia currently rank at third, fourth and fifth places of Group A. The top two teams of the group will be decided after the match between VTV Binh Dien Long An of Vietnam and DPRK's 4.25 Sports Club on Thursday.
The annual nine-day competition kicked off last Saturday with the participation of four leading Vietnamese teams - VTV Binh Dien Long An, LienVietPostBank, Vietinbank and Tien Nong Thanh Hoa, and five international invitees of Malaysia, DPRK's 4.25 Sports Club, China's Fujian, Kazakhstan's Astana, and Japan's Tenri University.
The nine participanting teams are competing in a round robin format in two groups, with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the semifinal round.
Group A comprises VTV Binh Dien Long An, Tien Nong Thanh Hoa, DPRK's 4.25 Sports Club, Malaysia and Japan's Tenri University. Group B is consisted of LienVietPostBank, Kazakhstan's Astana, China's Fujian and Vietinbank.
The event is scheduled to last till March 29. Enditem
