Ukraine vows to boost cooperation, trade with Turkey

Xinhua, March 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Friday met here with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and both leaders hoped to further trade ties and cooperation in various fields.

"We have focused on how to strengthen the practical component of the Ukrainian-Turkish cooperation by reaching out to large- scale high-tech projects," Poroshenko said during a joint press conference with Erdogan after their meeting.

Ukraine attaches great importance to mutually beneficial collaboration with Turkey and ready to expand cooperation in such fields as military-technical sphere, aviation and aerospace, Poroshenko said.

Erdogan said that his country looks forward to establishing a free trade area with Ukraine to push bilateral trade to a new level.

"We decided to sign an agreement to establish a free trade area as soon as possible," Erdogan said, hoping bilateral trade between the two nations may reach 20 billion U.S. dollars by 2023.

The two-way trade between Ukraine and Turkey reached 6 billion dollars last year, an almost 5-fold increase since 2004.

Erdogan arrived in Kiev, the national capital of Ukraine, earlier on Friday for a one-day official visit. Enditem
