Russia's Northern Fleet conducts border protection exercises in Barents Sea

More than 30 vessels from the Russian Navy's Northern Fleet joined forces on Thursday for exercises in the Barents Sea.

The press service for the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that the main purpose of the drills was to test the fleet's readiness against threats to Russia's Arctic borders. Live fire was used against a range of hypothetical land, air and sea targets.

Among vessels involved were destroyer Admiral Ushakov, large anti-submarine ship Admiral Levchenko and small missile boat Iceberg.

The exercises were part of the large-scale snap testing of Russia's military capabilities in the Arctic which are scheduled to extend till March 21 and including army units from the Western Military District. Endite
