Paris Saint-Germain will miss their top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic in next month's Champions League quarterfinals after the Swedes received a minimum one-match ban on Thursday for his red card against Chelsea.
UEFA, who confirmed last week that there was "no chance" of overturning the red card, had a meeting of their disciplinary body in Nyon on Thursday and decided not to extend the Swedish star striker's automatic one-match suspension.
The 33-year-old was sent off for a challenge on Oscar on the 31st minute of the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge on March 11, when Laurent Blanc's side went on to go through on away goals after extra time.
Ibrahimovic will now miss the first leg of PSG's Champions League quarterfinal, with the draw to make on Friday morning in UEFA's headquarter in Nyon.
"Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been suspended for one UEFA competition match for which he would be otherwise eligible," read a UEFA statement. "As a result, the player is not eligible to play in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal."
The Sweden international's teammate Serge Aurier, however, has been handed a three-game suspension after comments about the Chelsea-PSG match's Dutch referee Bjorn Kuipers in a video posted on Facebook were deemed "insulting" by UEFA. Endite
