Guinea Bissau and Portugal on Tuesday announced the resumption of their military cooperation, after a three-year suspension, an official source has said.
The announcement was made during a short visit to Bissau by Portugal's Defense Minister Aguiar Branco.
Lisbon suspended its military cooperation with Bissau after the April 12, 2012 coup that overthrew Guinea Bissau's former regime.
During his brief visit to Bissau, Portugal's minister signed a number of agreements with his Guinea Bissau counterpart Cadi Seide. The agreements included one on reopening of a military school, restructuring of Guinea Bissau's army and a donation of two small boats to the national navy.
"These agreements will come into effect soon," Branco said.
Seide said the "signing of the military agreements was a sign of restoration of normal relations between the two countries."
Portugal's defense minister, who was accompanied by Portugal's army boss General Artur Neves Pina Monteiro, later held talks with Guinea Bissau President Jose Mario Vaz. Endi
