1st LD: At least 3 killed in truck bombing near Iraq-Kuwait border

Xinhua, March 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least three people were killed and seven others wounded Wednesday in a truck bomb explosion near the Iraqi-Kuwaiti border, in Iraq's southern province of Basra, a security source said.

The attack took place in the morning when a booby-trapped truck exploded near a water drinking facility on the road linking the towns of Um Qasr and the border town of Safwan, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Iraqi security forces sealed off the scene and launched an investigation into the incident, the source said.

The water facility is usually full of trucks loaded with goods coming and going from Iraqi and Kuwaiti ports, the source added.

Iraq has witnessed some of the worst violence in years. Terrorism attacks have killed at least 12,282 civilians and injured 23,126 others in 2014, making it the deadliest year of violence ever since the sectarian violence between 2006-2007, according to a recent UN report. Endit
