Xinhua, March 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

The eurozone annual inflation rate rose to minus 0.3 percent in February from minus 0.6 percent in January, the European Union (EU) statistics office Eurostat said Tuesday.

The rate was 0.7 percent in the eurozone in February 2014.

The EU annual inflation was minus 0.2 percent in February, up from minus 0.5 percent in January.

In February, negative annual rates were observed in 20 EU member states. The lowest annual rates were registered in Greece, Bulgaria and Lithuania, while the positive annual rates were recorded in Sweden, Malta, Austria, Romania and Italy.

Compared with January, annual inflation fell in six EU member states, remained stable in four and rose in 17.

The largest upward impacts to euro area annual inflation came from restaurants and cafes, rents and tobacco, while fuels for transport, heating oil and telecommunications had the biggest downward impacts.

Since October 2009, the eurozone inflation rate turned negative for the first time in December 2014. Endit
