A flight headed from Washington, D.C. to Denver had to return to Washington's Dulles International Airport on Monday night after a passenger became violent and tried to charge the cockpit, local media said Tuesday.
According to the media, United Flight 1074 returned to Dulles shortly after taking off at around 8:40 p.m. local time on Monday (0040 GMT Tuesday). A statement issued by United Airlines said a passenger "failed to comply with crew instructions," forcing the flight to return.
Local police had already detained the passenger. So far, no further details about what happened on board the plane had been provided by the authorities.
However, recordings of communications between the pilots and air traffic controllers on the website LiveATC.net indicated that the plane turned around after a passenger went violent and dashed towards the cockpit and had to be restrained by other passengers.
Airport spokeswoman Kimberly Gibbs said the passenger was taken to a local hospital for observation and has not been charged yet. Endi
