Aquino's approval ratings hit lowest level

Xinhua, March 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III has received the lowest trust and approval ratings since he took office in 2010, according to Philippine survey and ratings pollster Pulse Asia on Tuesday.

Aquino's approval ratings plunged from 59 percent last November to 38 percent this March, a month after the botched Mamasapano operation which left 44 Elite Philippine Special Action Force (SAF) commandos and 18 Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Islamist rebels dead.

Meanwhile, Aquino's trust ratings also plummeted to 36 percent this month from a previous 56 percent last November.

1,200 Filipinos were interviewed by Pulse Asia from March 1 to 7, respondents who expressing disapproval with Aquino rose from 11 percent last November to 23 percent this month.

Those saying did not trust Aquino also increased to 27 percent this March from 13 percent four months ago.

This means around one in every four Filipinos "is critical of presidential performance and distrusts him," according to Pulse Asia. Endi
