Xinhua, March 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

Duc Thang GPRS from Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City will represent Vietnam to play at the Standard Chartered Cup Global Finals in Liverpool's Anfield, England, this May.

GPRS which won the South region soccer tournament, defeated northern representative Viettel 2-1 in Vietnam's final on Sunday in HCM City, becoming the country's representative at the global finals, local Vietnam News daily reported Tuesday.

In England, the team will have to defend the title Vietnam won last year, vying against other nine teams that qualified from their domestic and regional qualifying rounds.

The global tournament's winner will be decided on May 8.

The Standard Chartered Cup is an annual tournament held since 2012 by the Standard Chartered Bank which is also the main sponsor of the Liverpool Football Club. Participating countries and regions hold their own qualifying round to select the best team as their representative to play in the global finals. Endite
