India, U.S. ties in transition mode: foreign secretary

India's ties with the United States are in a transitional mode, Indian Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar said Monday.

"Both the countries are in a transition mode. We are moving into a phase of substantial shared interest but it is happening in a step by step manner," he said at a seminar in the national capital.

Stating that there are some real issues between the two countries, the foreign secretary said "There is a conceptual problem that we will have to overcome".

He added "We have to be careful. We need to have a different way, different concept of the world around us and where we fit into that world".

Until both the countries get that conceptual sense right, it would be a bit of struggle, the top diplomat said. Endi
