Sierra Leone's vice president at home: spokesman

Xinhua, March 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

The deputy government spokesman of Sierra Leone Abdulai Baraytay on Saturday said the country's Vice President Alhaji Samuel Sam Sumana was at home.

Baraytay told Xinhua by telephone that "the president was under oath to secure the life of every citizen irrespective of status".

Asked whether he spoke with the VP, Baraytay said no but explained that he spoke with somebody close to the VP who told him "Sam Sumana was at home".

However a colleague journalist who said he spoke with the VP early this morning confirmed to Xinhua that "indeed Sam Sumana was in hiding whilst waiting for his request to the American embassy for political asylum".

Xinhua called the VP's number but it was off.

The VP who was in self imposed quarantine was expelled from the governing All Peoples Congress party Friday for what the party described as falsifying his documents and anti party activities. Endi
