Bangladeshi opposition calls another round of nationwide strike

Xinhua, March 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

Bangladesh's main opposition alliance has called another round of nationwide strike from Sunday morning.

The announcement of fresh strike came shortly after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ruled out any possibility of holding talks with opposition parties about a fresh election.

Demanding the fresh election, the opposition alliance had observed a series of countrywide strike.

Ex-Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's Bangladesh Nationalist Party ( BNP) spokesman Barkat Ullah Bulu made the announcement of the latest strike through a press release on Saturday.

BNP and its allies have been observing strike at regular intervals on top of its on-going blockade campaign since January 6, demanding fresh elections.

Bulu, a BNP joint secretary general, said the 72-hour strike will start at 6:00 a.m. local time Sunday and will continue till 6: 00 a.m. local time Wednesday.

He said the strike also aims at demanding release of the alliance's dozens of leaders and activists. Endi
