Some nine militants have been killed in Afghan army operations since early Thursday, said the country's Defense Ministry on Saturday morning.

"Afghan army launched cleanup operations in Wardak, Ghazni, Kandahar and Nangarhar provinces over the past 48 hours, killing nine armed militants and injuring several others," the ministry said in a statement providing daily operational updates.

A total of four army soldiers also lost their lives in enemy's heavy weapon fire and roadside bomb attacks over the same period, the statement confirmed.

The army specialists have found and defused 74 roadside bombs and landmines, in addition to recovering a huge weapon cache over the past two days, the statement noted.

The Taliban insurgent group, which has been waging an insurgency of more than one decade, has yet to make comments. Endi
