WHO to host first ministerial conference on global action against dementia

The World Health Organization (WHO) on Friday said it will host its first ministerial conference on global action against dementia, aiming to address the global health challenge which affected millions of people, especially the seniors.

Dementia is a syndrome in which there is deterioration in memory, thinking, behavior and the ability to perform everyday activities. At present, WHO estimated that over 47 million people are living with the condition.

In 2010, the cost by dementia to society was estimated to be 604 billion U.S. dollars.

The conference on global action against dementia will take place on March 16 to 17.

Over 70 countries, including over 15 Ministers of Health, will discuss issues including innovations in treatment, research approaches and risk reduction and care. Endit
