EC president says not satisfied with developments in Greece bailout talks

Xinhua, March 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

The European Commission (EC) president Jean-Claude Juncker said here on Friday that he was "not satisfied with the developments in recent weeks" over Greece bailout talks when he welcomed the visiting Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

"The Commission wants to be helpful, but the Commission is not the major player in this because all the decisions will have to be taken by the Eurogroup," said Juncker.

He added that he didn't "think we have made sufficient progress but we will try to push in the direction of a successful conclusion of the issues we have to deal with."

The president also insisted that there was no chance of a failure, and "this is not a time for division."

Tsipras expressed confidence, saying that "we are discussing with the European institutions in order to find the best way to implement the decision of the 20 February in the Eurogroup."

He stressed he was optimistic in that "soon solutions in our common problems" would be found.

Under a deal achieved last month, the four-year Greek bailout which expired on Feb. 28 was extended for four months, giving Greece and its international creditors more time to reach a final contract on the Greek debt crisis. Endit
