CPC flagship newspaper calls to advance democracy

Xinhua, March 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

The People's Daily, the Communist Party of China (CPC)'s flagship newspaper, hailed the successful conclusion of the annual session of China's top political advisory body and called to further advance democracy in an editorial to be published Saturday.

Defining the year 2015 as "a critical year for comprehensively deepening reforms, the opening year for advancing the rule of law in an all-round way and the final year for completing the 12th Five-year Plan," the editorial called for efforts to further promote consultative democracy in order to implement the strategic layout of "Four Comprehensives."

The "Four Comprehensives," unveiled by Chinese President Xi Jinping, refer to comprehensively building a moderately prosperous society, deepening reform, advancing the rule of law and strictly governing the Party.

The editorial said democracy among people is the lifeline for socialism, urging political advisors to expand areas for consultation and actively carry out democratic supervision, so as to "push the system of multi-party cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the Communist Party of China to a new height."
