Polish, Romanian presidents sign declaration to strengthen cooperation

Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski and his Romanian counterpart Klaus Iohannis on Thursday signed a declaration to strengthen mutual cooperation, during the latter's two-day visit.
According to the agreement, Poland and Romania will jointly promote cooperation between the EU and NATO, and establish constant, mutual consultations at the presidential level.
Moreover, the document provides for close cooperation in the field of energy security, mutual efforts to implement common goals and the strengthening of the eastern flank of NATO.
Komorowski said the agreement would bring "new content to the already existing strategic partnership between the two countries," stating such a partnership is vitally needed in the region. He added he would try and arrange a trilateral meeting of between the leaders of Romania, Ukraine and Poland, dedicated to security issues.
Iohannis, for his part, underlined the importance of Polish-Romanian relations within the strategic partnership, and said it would be continued and deepened based on the declarations signed Thursday.
He added the leaders agreed to organize a meeting in Bucharest, which would include the heads of the Visegrad Group countries, Baltic countries, Romania and Bulgaria. The meeting will be held in the fall of 2015 and would mark a new format of regional cooperation, Iohannis added.
The Romanian president began his visit to Poland on Thursday. The visit will last two days and include meetings with Polish Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz and the speakers of Polish parliament and senate. Endit
