1st LD.: 3 killed, several injured in Al-Shabaab attack in central Somalia

Xinhua, March 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least three people were killed and several others injured in an Al-Shabaab attack on the regional presidential headquarters in Baidoa in central Somalia, authorities said on Thursday.

Police officer Muqtar Mumin said a car exploded in front of the gate of the building of Sharif Hassan Shekh Aden, president of the South West Somalia Federal State.

Police sources have also indicated that there was a meeting ongoing at the headquarters when the attack happened.

Residents near the building say they heard huge explosions, then gunfire coming from the headquarters.

The Al-Qaeda linked militant group Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The South West State was formed late last year as part of the federalization process in Somalia. Endi
