Tokyo shares open higher on market's optimism

Tokyo shares opened slightly higher Thursday due to an optimistic outlook over the Japanese economy.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 83.09 points, or 0.44 percent, from Wednesday to 18,806.61.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 5.86 points, or 0.38 percent, to 1,531. 53. Endi
