Vietnam's National Junior Track-and-Field Championships 2015 kicked off in southern Dong Nai province on Wednesday, attracting 473 athletes from 49 cities and provinces nationwide, according to Vietnam News Agency.

Contestants, divided into three age groups of 12-13, 14-15, and 16-17 years old, will compete in six events of high jump, long jump, three-step jump, javelin throw, disc throw and dumbbell push, for 66 sets of medals.

Co-organized by the Vietnam Athletics Federation (VAF) and local Dong Nai province's Culture, Sports and Tourism Department, the tournament aims to encourage youngsters to train more in track and field. Potential athletes will be selected for further training in preparation for competing in regional athletics events.
