Rising visitors drive growth in NZ accommodation sector

Xinhua, March 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

New Zealand's tourism industry saw visitor nights at commercial accommodation grow for the 10th straight month in January, up 3.8 percent year on year, the government statistics agency said on Wednesday.

Hotels and holiday parks accounted for most of the increase, with domestic guest nights up 4.6 percent and international guest nights up 2.5 percent, according to Statistics New Zealand.

In the year ending January 2015, national guest nights were up 5.5 percent.

Last month, the agency said total visitor arrivals to New Zealand increased 3 percent year on year in January to 302,400, despite a drop in numbers from China, New Zealand's second biggest tourist market.

Total arrivals in the year ending January were up 4.3 percent to 2.86 million. Endi
