Santos sparks Wanderers in Copa Libertadores

Xinhua, March 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

A first-half strike from Uruguayan starlet Matias Santos gave Wanderers a 1-0 victory over Chile's Palestino in their Copa Libertadores group match on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old handed the Montevideo-based club their second win from three matches with a low 20-yard drive after Leandro Reymundez's assist.

The result at the Gran Parque Central stadium lifted the Uruguayan outfit to second in Group 5 while Palestino are third with one win and two losses.

Six-time winners Boca Juniors, who lead the group on goal difference, will play Venezuela's Zamora on Wednesday.

Victory at the Bombonera would leave the Argentine outfit needing just one win from their final three group matches to advance to the knockout phase.

Also on Tuesday, Bolivia's Universitario de Sucre drew 0-0 with Uruguay's Huracan in Group 3.

The Copa Libertadores is considered South America's premier club competition. Endi
