Ad company WPP records 12 pct growth of pre-tax profit in 2014

WPP Plc, a leading British advertising company, announced Monday that its profit before tax in 2014 was 1.45 billion pounds (about 2.2 billion U.S. dollars), 12 percent higher than a year earlier.

The London-based company registered a 4.6 percent revenue growth to 11.53 billion pounds, exceeding the average estimate of 11.3 billion pounds compiled by Bloomberg.

Profit after tax for the company increased by 13.8 percent to 11.52 billion pounds in 2014. Headline diluted earnings per share and dividends per share were 0.849 pounds and 0.382 pounds respectively, data showed by WPP. But net sales in 2014 decreased slightly by 0.1 percent to 10.07 billion pounds.

WPP said in a statement it had seen a good start to 2015 with January like-for-like revenue up by 6.7 percent and net sales up by 3.9 percent.

The advertising giant employs around 179,000 people in 3,000 offices across 111 countries. (1 pound = 1.51 U.S. dollars) Endit
