The Indian government Monday offered to extend all assistance to the family of an Indian woman who was stabbed to death in Australia Saturday.

Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said that she is in constant touch with the Indian Consulate in Sydney and working with the Australian government to offer all help to the bereaved family.

"I am in constant touch with our consulate in Sydney. The consulate is providing all help," she tweeted.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin added " Consulate General of India in Sydney aware of sad incident. All necessary assistance being provided."

The Indian woman, identified as 41-year-old Prabha Arun Kumar, who was working in Sydney for an Indian information technology firm, was stabbed to death while returning home from work.

Sydney's police superintendent Wayne Cox told the media that Prabha was attacked "by a person or unknown persons, and she consequently suffered a life-threatening injury." Endi
