WASHINGTON -- All 31 U.S. largest banks passed a 5 percent minimum hurdle for top-tier capital in an annual stress test by the Federal Reserve, the central bank said on Thursday.

ABUJA -- At least 47 villagers were killed in the latest attack by Boko Haram in Nigeria's northeastern state of Borno, one of the three most-hit states by the terror group, a local security source said Thursday.

LONDON -- A British high school teacher was sentenced to six years imprisonment for his plans to fight alongside the Islamic State in Syria, local media reported Thursday.

Jamshed Javeed, 30, a former chemistry teacher at Sharples High School in Bolton, northern England, quit his job to fight jihad despite the opposition from his family, according to a local court. (Britain-Teacher-IS)

DAMASCUS -- The Syrian army on Thursday killed the general military commander of the al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front during a "qualitative" operation in the northwestern province of Idlib, the state news agency SANA reported.

The military commander, who goes by the nom de guerre of Abu Hammam al-Shami, was killed along with other leaders of the Nusra Front, when a Syrian military unit targeted their meeting in the town of Habait in the countryside of Idlib, said SANA, spelling no further details. (Syria-Killing) Endi
