French junior minister resigns over health problem

The French Junior Minister for Higher Education and Research, Genevieve Fioraso, resigned on Thursday due to health problems, the presidency office said.

In a statement, the Elysee added that Najat Vallaaud-Belkacem, the minister of education, will take charge of the higher education and research portfolio, replacing Fioraso.

President Francois Hollande paid tribute to Fioraso's efforts to improve French research and modernize the country's higher education system, according to the statement. Endit
