Xinhua, March 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

Jobless rate in France rose by 0.1 percentage point to 10 percent during the last quarter of 2014 compared to the third quarter 2014, official data showed on Thursday.

According to Insee, National Statistics Institute, 2.9 million people were reported to be jobless in mainland France over the last three months of 2014, 36,000 more compared with third quarter of 2014.

With the overseas departments taken into account, the quarterly jobless rate stood at 10.4 percent, up from 10.3 percent recorded in the third quarter in 2014.

The rise in quarterly jobless rate stemmed from a 0.2 percent growth in number of unemployed people aged from 25 to 49, which stood at 1.697 million while the rates of younger and older jobseekers were stable at 23.7 percent and 6.8 percent respectively.

From October to December 2014, unemployment rate rose by 0.3 percent to 10.4 percent for men and was at 9.7 percent for women, unchanged from a quarter earlier, Insee figures showed.

To regain his waning popularity, French President Francois Hollande reiterated his promise that creating jobs topped the agenda of his five-year term. He also pledged to take measures to reverse industrial decline and overturn public deficit. Endit
