Seoul shares ended almost unchanged on Thursday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) inched up 0.09 points to close at 1,998.38. Trading volume stood at 362. 43 million shares worth 3.94 trillion won (3.58 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian sharemarket ended slightly higher after a volatile day.

At the official close, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was up 2. 6 points, or 0.04 percent, at 5,904.2, while the broader All Ordinaries index rose 2.2 points, or 0.04 percent, to 5,873.7.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks ended 0.26 percent higher Thursday as investors awaited an upcoming policy meeting of the European Central Bank and a report on the U.S. labor market.

The turnover was 2,155.52 billion yen (about 17.98 billion U.S. dollars).

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market finished on Thursday down 0. 11 percent against the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 1.51 points to 1,421.47. A total of 232,090 shares worth about 1.65 billion Lao kip (about 204,000 U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

TAIPEI -- Taiwan's share prices closed lower Thursday with the weighted index down 26.64 points, or 0.27 percent, to close at 9, 595.09, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

Turnover totaled 84.48 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 2.69 billion U.S. dollars). ----

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks dropped 272.34 points, or 1.11 percent, to close on Thursday at 24,193.04 points.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 24,393.85 and 24, 133.71. Turnover totaled 92.13 billion HK dollars (11.89 billion U. S. dollars).

BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.95 percent to finish at 3,248.48 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index lost 0.76 percent to close at 11, 566.39 points.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.25 percent to end at 2,014.79 points.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 596.91 points on Thursday, down 3.48 points, or 0.58 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

A total of 51.035 million shares worth 1.045 billion VND (48.72 million U.S. dollars) were traded on Thursday.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX- Index, closed at 86.81 points on Thursday, down 0.04 points, or 0. 05 percent, against the previous trading session.

Prices of 105 stocks went up; 92 stocks fell down, while 73 stocks remained unchanged.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index closed Thursday at 4,664.91 points, down 16.63 points or about 0. 36 percent from Wednesday's finish.

Total turnover increased to about 2.66 billion taka (about 34. 14 million U.S. dollars) on Thursday from about 2.22 billion taka (about 28.44 million U.S. dollars) on Wednesday.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 20.26 points, or 0.59 percent, to close at 3,395.27.

A total of 1.24 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 934 million Singapore dollars (683 million U.S. dollars).

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed higher by 2.89 points, or 0. 05 percent, to a level of 5,450.95 on Thursday.

Some 206,921 transactions were booked, involving 5.42 billion shares worth 5.39 trillion rupiah (about 413.53 million U.S. dollars).

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET)index Thursday moved down 9.51 points, or 0.61 percent to close at 1,553.33 points.

Some 15.07 billion shares worth 67.02 billion baht (about 2.07 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

KUALA LUMPUR-- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Thursday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,806.09, down 19.45 points or 1.08 percent, and the Emas was at 12,429.39, down 109.49 points or 0.88 percent.

Turnover increased to 2.14 billion shares valued at 2.38 billion ringgit Malaysia(652.05 million U.S. dollars), compared with 2.12 billion shares valued at 2.16 billion ringgit Malaysia( 592.19 million U.S. dollars) on Wednesday.

MUMBAI -- India's benchmark S&P BSE Sensex ended higher after a volatile day on Thursday.
