Malta hosts meeting of EU trio presidency

Xinhua, March 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

The third meeting of the Trio Presidency of the Council of the European Union concluded here on Wednesday.

The meeting involved delegations from the Netherlands, Slovakia and Malta, which will preside over the Council from January 2016 to June 2017.

The three countries exchanged views on collaborating with former and future trios in order to ensure smooth transitions between Trio Presidencies.

The first meeting of EU trio presidency was held in Bratislava in March 2014. The second meeting was held in Amsterdam in September 2014.

EU member states take turns to hold the six-month presidency of the Council of the EU. Countries work closely in groups of three, called trios with long-term objectives and a common agenda on the main topics and issues that the Council will deal with over an 18-month period.

Based on these goals, each of the countries prepares its own detailed six-month program. Enditem
