Slovak MP Janos resigns over threats against his wife

Xinhua, March 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

Slovak ruling party Smer-SD MEP Vladimir Janos has resigned over a scandal involving transcriptions of audio recordings published on the Internet on Tuesday in which he verbally abuses his wife, including the use of threats, confirmed Smer-SD spokesperson Lubica Koncalova on Wednesday.

Janos is also resigning as Smer-SD district chief in Prievidza in the Western Slovakia.

Meanwhile, a lawyer of his wife Iveta has filed a complaint with the Prosecutor-General's Office against Janos for alleged blackmail, threats and coercion. The filing of the submission has been confirmed by Slovak Prosecutor-General's Office spokesperson Andrea Predajnova.

"After the publishing of this information yesterday the prosecutor-general himself immediately contacted the district prosecutor in Prievidza and tasked him with acting on the matter without any delay," noted Predajnova.

Conversely, Janos has announced that he is filing a criminal complaint for slander and infringing on the sanctity of intimate verbal expression, claiming that "many claims, half-truths and untrue claims" have been published in the media concerning his case. Endit
