Libertad sink Barcelona de Guayaquil with late winner

Xinhua, March 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Jorge Recalde came off the bench to score a sublime late winner as Paraguay's Libertad overcame Barcelona de Guayaquil 1-0 in their Copa Libertadores group match on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old was introduced by manager Pedro Sarabia in the 75th minute at the Monumental stadium and it took less than two minutes for the Paraguay international forward to make an impact.

In a swift counter-attacking move, Recalde ran onto an Ivan Ramirez pass before spinning his way past three defenders and slotting a low shot past goalkeeper Maximo Banguera.

"It was a complicated match and we made the most of the pressure put on us by pressing for that goal," Recalde said after the match.

The result lifts Libertad to the top of Group 7 with four points from two matches while Barcelona are last, having yet to win a point.

In other matches on Tuesday, Bolivia's Universitario de Sucre won 1-0 at Venezuela's Mineros de Guayana and Uruguay's Huracan held Brazilian champions Cruzeiro 0-0. Endi
