NATO to conduct annual crisis management exercise

Xinhua, March 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

NATO will conduct the Annual Crisis Management Exercise (CMX) to test decision-making procedures at the strategic political-military level, according to a NATO statement on Tuesday.

The exercise, called CMX15, will take place between March 4 and 10, 2015, and is the 19th event of its kind.

During the exercise, ambassadors on the North Atlantic Council (NAC), NATO's principal political decision-making body, will rehearse NATO procedure amongst the security alliance.

The exercise involves civilian and military staff in NATO capitals, at NATO headquarters and commands, using an entirely fictitious scenario. No forces are deployed.

The scenario for CMX15 consists of a crisis developing between two non-NATO states at distance from the alliance's territory, with a humanitarian and maritime dimension added in, the statement said.

Australia, Finland, Japan, Sweden and Ukraine will participate in the exercise, and South Korea, New Zealand and Georgia will observe it.

The observing participants also include the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Energy Agency. Endit
