Spain's unemployment falls in Feb.

The number of people registered as out of work in Spain fell by 13,538 to 4,512,153 in February, while the number of people affiliated with the country's social security system rose by 96,909, according to figures published by the country's employment and social security ministry Tuesday.

The ministry's press release confirmed these figures represented the best February performance in the Spanish job market since 2001.

The number of people out of work has fallen "for the second year in succession," in a month where the "average performance for the past seven years was a rise of 90,000 in the number of people out of work," the ministry said.

"It was a good February," Alvaro Nadal, the director of the economic office of the government's president, told Spanish national TV network, RTVE.

"The month tends to be one of transition for employment, so it gives you an idea of how the year will go," he added.

Spain's secretary of state for employment, Engracia Hidalgo said that taking seasonal factors into account, the fall in unemployment was really over 49,000. She called it the best February figures since records were first kept.

The unemployment figure is also 300,333 fewer people than in February 2014. Hidalgo said the figure was the best yearly fall in unemployment since 1999.

Of the jobs which have been created over the past year, 39 percent are in the construction sector and 43 percent in services.

However, it is not all positive news given that although unemployment among men fell by 19,857 in February, unemployment for women actually rose by 6,319 during the month. The month was also negative for young people seeking work, as the number of people aged under 25 who are unemployed rose by 2,569. Endit
