Girls' Festival celebration for twin panda babies held at western Japanese zoo

Xinhua, March 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

A Girls' Festival celebration was held for twin panda babies Ohin and Tohin on Tuesday at Adventure World, a theme park in Wakayama Prefecture, local media reported.

Unable to walk yet, the twin panda babies were held in arms by the zoo keepers to make public appearance at the ceremony. A guessing game about the weight of the panda babies was held, and the winner was awarded a pin badge.

The twin panda babies were born at Adventure World on Dec. 2, 2014. The mother panda Rauhin had been born at the same park, and the father panda Yong Ming was from China. One of the first cooperative partners of China's Chengdu Panda Base in panda breeding research, Adventure World now houses seven giant pandas, the most in Japan.

Girls' Festival is a traditional festival in Japan. It is also called Dolls' Day, on which people display a set of dolls and props in the house, wishing girls of the family to grow up with health and happiness. Endi
