The Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) in Dubai said on Tuesday that Dubai received 11.6 million tourists in 2014, an increase of 5.6 percent over the previous year.

Revenues of hotels in Dubai reached 23.9 billion dirhams (6.51 billion U.S. dollars) in 2014, an increase of 9.8 percent compared with 2013, according to the DTCM.

In 2014, Saudi Arabia was once again the top source market for the Gulf Arab sheikhdom, followed by India, the United Kingdom, the United States and Iran.

Helal Saeed Almarri, the general director of DTCM, said Dubai was on the way to achieve its target to host 20 million visitors per year by 2020, when the sheikhdom hosts the world expo. Endit
