Xinhua, March 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Two people died and four others injured in a car explosion in Mogadishu on Saturday evening.

Police at the scene told Xinhua that they tried to stop the car in a police blockade in the capital's Hodan district when the car exploded, killing two people and injuring four others, including two police officers.

"We had information about this vehicle and we had been following it for sometime, but when we reached the road block the car blew up," said Hassan Afrah, a senior police officer .

"This car was driving very fast and when the police tried to stop it at roadblock, it blew up and there was a huge explosion," said a resident near the scene.

The explosion comes barely a day after two people were killed in another car explosion in Mogadishu.

Somali police have, in the last three weeks, been conducting a major operation in main roads of Mogadishu aimed at arresting members of the militant group Al-Shabaab, which has claimed responsibility for several attacks in the city. Endi
