Turkish court issues detention warrant for 28 police over illegal wiretapping

A Turkish court ordered a detention warrant for 28 police officers over accusation of illegal wiretapping, private Dogan News Agency reported on Saturday.
The 28 police officers from 12 provinces including senior police chiefs and former intelligence officials were accused of forming and being a member of a criminal organization, violation of the privacy of communication and slander.
As part of the operation, 10 police officers were detained in central Anatolian province of Eskisehir, including former deputy chief of the Eskisehir police and former head of the police intelligence department.
The detentions were part of a massive operation by the Turkish government following a graft probe in 2013 that led to the arrest of several high-profile government figures, including the sons of three former ministers and businessmen.
The Turkish government launched the campaign against the police officers, judges and prosecutors that took part in the 2013 probe and purged hundreds of them.
The government called the 2013 anti-graft probe a "coup attempt" by a "parallel structure."
But the ruling Justice and Development Party members claimed the movement has infiltrated the Turkish state and attempted to overthrow the government. Endit
